Why Dyno Tune?

There are two basic ways to tune an engine: by the seat of your pants, or by using an engine dynamometer. The former method will almost always result poor performance and driveability characteristics, so let’s focus on the latter. A dynamometer or “dyno” for short, is a device for measuring force, moment of force (torque), or power. For example, the power produced by an engine can be calculated by simultaneously measuring torque and rotational speed (RPM). If you want to be absolutely sure that your engine is performing at it’s maximum potential and within safety limits, it is necessary to have it tuned on a dyno. At Garage BOSO we use the latest technology coupled with years of professional racing experience and know how to get the most out of your engine *SAFELY*. This is very important, because if an engine is not tuned by professionals who understand the capability of your engine, it is likely you will damage your engine and/or cause bodily harm to yourself or others.

What Happens during Dyno Tuning?

The word “tuning” is a term commonly used in the automotive aftermarket instead of the word “calibration.” Dyno tuning means calibrating the ECU in your vehicle by means of a dyno to achieve higher engine performance (usually by allowing the engine to safely generate a higher torque value). Generally, this involves manipulation of the ECU controlled ignition system, fuel injection system, A/F parameters to adjust idle control, throttle response, and cold start control. If you tune your vehicle at GarageBOSO we are confident that you will have better driveabilty and engine performance than any shop claiming the same results. Many of cars that are turned by our shop compete Professionally in Motorsports.

It usually takes approximately 8-10 hours to tune professional competition level ECUs, depending on the level of vehicle modification. However, for weekend warrior track cars, typically we can complete the tune within 4-8 hours. Note that the tuning rate per hour is unchanged whether your vehicle is professionally raced or not.

Vehicle Inspection

Before we can perform any dyno tuning on your car several inspection steps are required to ensure that your vehicle (especially the engine) is mechanically sound. This is a necessary precaution for both your vehicle and the safety of our staff. This pre-dyno check will ensure that you are not wasting any money and will minimize the possibility of issues during the dyno test procedure. This inspection is part of our quality control process and is mandatory for every vehicle we dyno. The following list highlights some of the major items which will be checked during the inspection

  • Cylinder Compression
  • Ignition System Check (Spark Plugs, Ignition Timing, Mechanical Timing)
  • Charging System Check
  • Leak Down Test
  • Lubricating System (Condition and Leak Check)
  • Cooling System (Condition and Leak Check)
  • Intake System (Condition and Leak Check)
  • Exhaust System (Condition and Leak Check)

Torque Check

Dyno runs are appropriate for people who would like to know how much horsepower/torque your vehicle is generating at the wheels. We perform 3 runs to establish a baseline for horsepower and torque. You will receive a printed copy of the data we log for those 3 runs. This procedure does not tune your vehicle.

Supported ECU List

Currently we are only tuning and servicing the engine management systems listed below. If your engine management system is not listed here then we do not service and tune it. To schedule an appointment for tuning, please email Frank@GarageBOSO.com  Thank you.
